Students of Government Titumir College blocked the Gulshan-1 intersection in the capital on Saturday evening, demanding to convert the institution into an independent university.
Several hundred demonstrators took to the streets around 6:30 pm, causing immense suffering to people and severe traffic congestion in the area.
The students have been protesting for the last three consecutive days to press home their demands and eventually issued an ultimatum to the government to fulfil the demand by 4:00 pm on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education dubbed the deadline set by the students illogical.
Following the government statement, the demonstrators marched toward the Gulshan-1 intersection and blocked the busy thoroughfare.
Students said an announcement must come from the government accepting their seven-point demand, and they will continue their movement until the announcement is made.
