A number of Indian actions undermining Bangladeshi sovereignty, including border killings and unfair deals signed during the Awami League autocratic regime, will be discussed in the talks next month between top officials of both countries’ border forces.
Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury revealed the agendas for talks at a press conference at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Wednesday.
The talks BGB-BSF are scheduled during 17-20 February in New Delhi, India.
In the talks, the BGB director general would also ask his BSF counterpart to avoid erecting border fences within 150 yards of the border, as per international law. When it is deemed indispensable to do so, BSF will be asked to take permission from the Bangladeshi side beforehand.
BGB chief would ask BSF to stop the killings of and attacks on Bangladeshi nationals by Indian security forces and Indian citizens in border areas. BSF will be asked to prevent the infiltration of narcotics, weapons and explosive materials from India.
For restoring mutual trust between the two neighbouring countries, measures will be sought against a disinformation campaign being waged by Indian entities, the home adviser told reporters.
The BGB delegation would also demand fair share of water from trans-boundary rivers and proper implementation of water sharing deal.
