The BCS (Health) Cadre Specialist Doctors Forum has decided to suspend their strike for 12 weeks after receiving an assurance from Dr. Sayedur Rahman, the Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor. Dr. Sayedur Rahman visited the Dhaka Medical College Hospital at 10:30 AM today to address the concerns of the striking doctors.
In his statement, Dr. Sayedur Rahman requested additional time to meet the demands, explaining that it would take approximately 20 to 25 working days to complete the necessary actions. "We require 12 weeks to fulfill your requests. There are two ministries involved, and we are ensuring full compliance with the rules," he stated.
In response to this commitment, the BCS (Health) Cadre Specialist Doctors Forum agreed to suspend their strike.
The key demands of the doctors include:
- Ensuring timely and equitable promotions for all eligible specialist doctors, addressing intra and inter-cadre disparities, and enhancing the quality of medical education to preserve global recognition of the MBBS degree.
- Ensuring fair pay by granting promotions to second and first-grade doctors after the specified time, for all those qualified in the third grade.
The Forum has warned that if their demands are not met within the given time, they will resume their strike with a full-day demonstration, continuing indefinitely.
