Mia Golam Parwar, the Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami, has urged the interim government to withdraw the proposed gas price hike for the sake of the country’s business and economy.
He made this statement today(on Monday)
“I am deeply concerned about the government’s proposal of increasing the gas price. This proposal has already drawn angry reactions from the country's business community and industrialists. During the reign of the fascist Awami League regime, the price of gas was increased 7 times,” said Mia Golam Parwar
He said, "Most recently, in January 2023, the Awami League government raised gas prices by over 150%. At that time, due to the gas shortage, industries operated under a rationing system. The gas crisis is still present. In order to resolve this crisis, it is essential to explore and drill gas wells in all potential areas of the country. Furthermore, it is also necessary to import gas from abroad in order to address the gas shortage. Increasing the price of gas will not solve the issue. As a matter of fact, it will further increase the problem.”
