A cheque of Tk three lakh as financial assistance was officially handed over to martyr Nazmul Kazi's wife

The July mass uprising of 2024 is the name of a new phenomenon in the history of Bangladesh. Thousands of people lost their lives in this victory of students and mass people that was achieved through a river of blood. Nazmul Kazi is one of those shiny stars who saved the country by sacrificing their life.

Nazmul worked alongside the mass people during the turbulent times of the movement. He lost his life very pathetically in police firing while distributing food and drinks to the protesters. Bashundhara Foundation stood by the family of this valiant martyr. Through this, the foundation has reiterated its commitment to stand by the families of heroes who sacrificed their lives for freedom and democracy of people.

The financial assistance was handed over to Nazmul Kazi's wife Maria Sultana through a program held at the Bashundhara Foundation's head office in the capital's Bashundhara residential area on Thursday.

This initiative of Bashundhara Foundation has brought new hope to the lives of Shaheed Nazmul Kazi's wife Maria Sultana and their two-and-a-half-year-old daughter Ariana Kazi Nuzaira.

A cheque of Tk three lakh as financial assistance was officially handed over to martyr Nazmul Kazi's wife Maria at the event. Bashundhara Shuvosangho president eminent author Imdadul Haq Milon, Bashundhara Foundation CEO Nasimul Hai, Bashundhara Group press and media advisor Mohammad Abu Tayeb and secretary to chairman Masudur Rahman Manna and other senior officials were present at the event.

The speakers said, "The bravery and sacrifice with which Nazmul Kazi gave his life for the motherland will be remembered forever. It is our moral and social responsibility to stand by their family."

In addition to providing financial assistance, the foundation also promised to provide further assistance to Nazmul Kazi's family if needed.

In an emotional voice, Martyr Nazmul Kazi's wife Maria Sultana said, "My husband gave his life for our freedom. Today, Bashundhara Foundation has stood by us and proved that the nation has not forgotten his sacrifice. This support is giving us the strength and courage to live anew."

She said, "My husband sacrificed his life to remove discrimination. He was the backbone of my life and it has been removed. He gave his life for the sake of country, for a Bangladesh free of discrimination. A memorial should be built where my husband is buried so that people know that my husband sacrificed his life for the country. Then, my children can go there and remember their father."

While Maria Sultana was talking about her husband, the expression of two-year-old Ariana Kazi next to her seemed to indicate that this support from Bashundhara Foundation has created hope for her future. According to the concerned, this initiative is a symbol of generosity of Bashundhara Foundation. By honoring the families of those who sacrificed themselves for freedom and democracy, they have set a shining example of patriotism. The family of martyr Nazmul Kazi has started their journey with new hope, and this humanitarian initiative has made a unique place in the hearts of the countrymen.

How Nazmul Kazi martyred

July 18. Nazmul Kazi learned that water and dry food were needed for the protesters at Shanir Akhra area in Jatrabari. Hence, without delay, Nazmul left his house in Mohammadbagh and took some water bottles and dry food from a nearby shop and distributed them to the protesters.

It made the pro-government gunmen present there furious and they severely beat, stabbed him and left him on the road. At that time, two passers-by took him to the local Anabil Hospital in a moribund state. But due to the ban of the then administration, the hospital authorities expressed their inability to treat anyone injured in the movement. Finally, Nazmul was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital by a rickshaw. Later, his wife Maria received the news and reached Dhaka Medical College at 5 pm. When she went there, she saw the bodies of five people in a row. One of them was her husband Nazmul Kazi.

Nazmul's village is in Daulatpur of Muradnagar Upazila in Cumilla. His father's is Salim Kazi and mother Nazma Begum. Nazmul was had been in the textile chemicals business in the Mohammadbag area for 4 to 5 years before his martyrdom.
