The long-awaited reunion of former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia and her son Tarique Rahman took place at Heathrow Airport on Monday, ending seven years of separation.
The flight carrying Begum Zia touched down at 9:15 am local time in freezing temperatures of -1°C, accompanied by light rain. Moments later, at 9:35 am local time, a heartfelt embrace between mother and son brought an emotional end to a chapter marked by longing and anticipation.
As the two embraced, onlookers remarked that the warmth of their reunion contrasted sharply with the cold, snow-covered London landscape.
Tarique Rahman, who had been separated from his mother for years, clung to her in a moment that transcended politics, with Begum Zia momentarily setting aside her role as a national leader to simply be a mother.
Waiting alongside him at the airport were his wife, Dr. Zubaida Rahman, and other members of the Zia family.
The former prime minister was also received by Bangladesh's acting High Commissioner to the UK, Hazrat Ali Khan, as well as UK BNP President MA Malik and General Secretary Qaisar Ahmed.
UK BNP President MA Malik said that doctors and family members have left for the London clinic with Madam.
