An earthquake was felt across several regions of Bangladesh, including Dhaka, Sylhet, and Cumilla, at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Friday. Fortunately, no damage has been reported.
Rubayet Kabir, Officer-in-Charge of the Earthquake Observation and Research Center at the Meteorological Department, confirmed that the tremor originated in Myanmar, about 482 kilometers from Dhaka. The quake was felt across the capital, Sylhet in the northeast, and surrounding areas.
Sajibur Rahman, a meteorologist at the Sylhet Meteorological Office, reported the quake registered a magnitude of 5 on the Richter scale. The exact origin is still being verified.
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) also recorded the earthquake’s epicenter near Phek, a town in Nagaland, India, 128 kilometers away, with the same magnitude of 5.
