Michael Chakma submitted a written complaint to the International Crimes Tribunal, naming nine individuals—including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina—as the primary accused in cases of enforced disappearances.
On Monday (Dec 30) morning, he submitted the complaint.
He also submitted the 'gamcha' that was used to bind his hands during the enforced disappearance to the tribunal. During the submission distinguished anthropologist Professor Rahnuma Ahmed was with him.
On April 9, 2019, Michael Chakma was subjected to enforced disappearance while returning to Dhaka after conducting organizational work in the Kanchpur area of Narayanganj. In protest of his abduction, the UPDF and its allied organizations, along with progressive and human rights groups, teachers, civil society members, and his family, had organized various campaigns demanding his release.
After a prolonged period of five years and three months, Michael Chakma was freed from his captivity on August 7, following the fall of the ousted Hasina government.
He was released at a location in Chattogram with his eyes blindfolded.
