Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman stated Friday that his party is not eager for power, emphasizing the need for electoral reforms before holding elections.
Speaking at the party's Dhaka district workers' conference in Keraniganj, Jamaat Ameer said, “Many journalists ask me how many more days we want elections. I replied, we have waited for 17 years. We want elections after addressing the issues of injustice and corruption.”
He further criticized the current government, stating “This interim government did not come to power by force; it was placed in power by the people. However, they have failed to break the commodity price syndicate controlled by the Awami League government.”
Despite this, he offered Jamaat's full support to the government in efforts to curb extortion and reduce syndicates, adding, "If we can help stop these corrupt practices, we will extend our full cooperation."
Jamaat Ameer said, "No concession will be given to those conspiring against the country. The Awami League government has killed the countrymen until the day it leaves power. Even though the dictatorial government has fallen, the country is not yet independent. The dictatorial government has killed hundreds of our brothers and sisters. They were forced to leave the country due to lack of moral courage."
