During the discussion, High Commissioner Md. Iqbal Hossain Khan began his speech by paying deep respect to the memory of the martyred intellectuals. He said, ‘On March 26, 1971, the freedom-loving Bengali nation joined into the freedom struggle. On the eve of the final victory through the long nine-month armed liberation war, on December 14, 1971, the Pakistani occupying forces and their allies blindfolded and brutally killed prominent Bangladeshi educationists, researchers, doctors, engineers, journalists, poets and writers, and intellectuals who had made important contributions to the emergence of independent Bangladesh through their intellectual activities. They killed the intellectuals in a planned manner to demoralize independent Bangladesh.”
At this time, the High Commissioner concluded his speech by calling on everyone to unite from their respective positions and confront all conspiracies to build a developed and prosperous Bangladesh free from discriminations under the rule of democracy and the rule of law. Finally, special prayers were offered for the forgiveness of the souls of the martyred intellectuals and for the prosperity, progress and welfare of Bangladesh.
