Professor Asif Nazrul, Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser to the Interim Government, called on the people to seize the opportunity to build a strong nation—an opportunity earned through the sacrifices of the youth. He described the post-coup period as a "second chance" for national reconstruction and urged citizens not to let it slip away.
Dr. Nazrul made these remarks after paying his respects at the Mirpur Martyr Intellectual Memorial in the capital on Saturday morning.
He said, "Our July mass uprising was the continuation of the dream, conviction, and patriotism that the martyred intellectuals fought for. Our youth and students rejected the illusion of an easy life and fought for democracy, human rights, and a society free from discrimination and exploitation."
Mr. Nazrul also acknowledged the nation's past failures, saying, "Despite the sacrifices made by many, including intellectuals, we failed to build the Bangladesh of our dreams in 1971." He attributed this failure to a one-party mentality and systemic shortcomings. "We must ensure that these mistakes are not repeated today," he warned.
Press secretary to the chief adviser Shafiqul Alam emphasized that the interim government fully embraces the dreams and ideals of the martyred intellectuals.
Earlier, at around 7 a.m., President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus also paid tribute to the nation’s fallen heroes.
