Since the fall of autocrat Sheikh Hasina, the Indian media has been spreading various propagandas on Bangladesh. Many major mainstream media outlets in India have participated in this propaganda mission. This time too, a similar thing happened centered over an incident on Goa beach in India.
Recently, a vlogger was accused of recording a video of Russian women sunbathing and spreading it on social media. The Goa police have started an investigation into the matter. In this incident, the vlogger has been mentioned as a Bangladeshi citizen on various Indian media outlets and social media platforms.
In the news broadcast in major media outlets like Hindustan Times, NDTV and The Hindu, the vlogger has also been introduced as a Bangladeshi.
However, right information on it has proven that the accused person 'Mizan Russian' is an Indian citizen. He lives in the Bhagwangola area of Murshidabad district of West Bengal. There is no information on his Facebook or YouTube that he has ever been to Bangladesh. At the same time, his educational institution is also found out in Murshidabad.
This false propaganda was originally started by a Twitter account named ‘Hindutva Knight (@HPhobiaWatch),’ where the post was made mentioning the Goa Police. And without any kind of fact checking, the Indian media presented the vlogger as Bangladeshi as it was claimed by the Hindutva Knight account.
The accused's Bengali accent, his friend list on Facebook and other data reveal that he is originally an Indian. The Twitter account made this post with the aim of vilifying Bangladesh, which has become the fodder for rumors in Indian newspapers.
