Fugitive authoritarian government wanted to survive through corruption: Tarique

BNP's Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman highlighted the contributions of the Zia family and said, "My father, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, gave his life for the nation as he fell victim to conspirators. You have witnessed the suffering my mother, Khaleda Zia, endured for standing by the people. My brother, Arafat Rahman, was martyred under the oppression of these conspirators. The stories of many BNP leaders and activists’ families are similar to mine."

He made these remarks on Tuesday, as the chief guest at a training workshop regarding 31-Point for State Structure Reform and Public Engagement. The workshop was organized for BNP leaders and activists from the Comilla division.

Tarique Rahman stated, "Over the past 15 years, we have seen how the authoritarian government has destroyed the country’s education system, plunged the nation into corruption, and looted resources to smuggle wealth abroad. They sought to survive through corruption and tried to instill it into every facet of society. To save the country from this corruption, we must start by raising awareness among students at the primary school level."

He further added, "Skilled human resources must be built. Also, the education system has to be modernized. Students will be trained in English proficiency alongside other subjects, and every student will be encouraged to participate in sports. From primary to intermediate levels, each citizen must be developed as a capable individual. Our citizens must be trained so that they can excel anywhere, domestically or internationally, and establish themselves as skilled professionals globally."

During the workshop, various leaders and activists of BNP asked the Acting Chairman some questions.

In response to a question related to transportation, Tarique Rahman emphasized the need to improve the country’s public transport system. He noted that traffic jam is a major problem and requires an integrated effort to resolve it.

The Acting Chairman also announced plans to name various establishments after the martyrs of the July-August revolution in their respective areas.

The workshop was inaugurated by the party's Standing Committee Member Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain. BNP's Comilla Divisional Organizational Secretary Selim Bhuiyan presided over the session, while A.B.M. Mosharraf Hossain (BNP’s Secretary Training Affairs) conducted it. The workshop was attended by top leaders from Comilla, Brahmanbaria, Chandpur, Feni, Noakhali, and Laxmipur district BNP.
