Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) recovered nine pieces of gold bars worth approximately Tk1.5 crore from the Damurhuda border area in Chuadanga district and arrested the gold carrier Ruhul Amin on the spot.
Lieutenant Colonel Saeed Mohammad Zahidur Rahman, Commander of the BGB-6 battalion in Chuadanga under Kushtia Sector confirmed it in a press release on Sunday night
According to the press release, Ruhul Amin (21), was apprehended on Sunday (Dec 8) afternoon from Dugdugi Bazar in Damurhuda upazila. He is the son of Rafiqul Islam from Azampur village in Darshana Municipality of the upazila.
Based on secret information, a patrol team from the Darshana Border Outpost (BOP), led by Nayek Ziaur Rahman, stationed in the Dugdugi Bazar area. The patrol team stopped Ruhul when was passing through the area on a motorcycle at about 5.30 pm,.
Upon searching the motorcycle, BGB discovered nine gold bars weighing 1.178 kilograms wrapped in black tape hidden within the headlight cover of the motorbike.
The gold bars have been deposited at the Chuadanga Treasury Office, and Ruhul Amin was handed over to Damurhuda Police Station on today (Monday) morning.
