Primary and Mass Education Adviser Dr Bidhan Ranjan Roy said the book festival will not be held on January 1 due to tenders of the new book and renovations.
He, however, assured that the new books would be handed over to the primary students within the month of January.
Bidhan Ranjan Roy revealed the information on Sunday morning while speaking at a view-exchange meeting with the Khulna Division officials concerned at the Khulna Divisional Commissioner’s office.
The adviser said that a country was given the tender to print books which has been cancelled. Several revisions and additions are being made to the new books. As a result, there is some delay in distributing the books at the scheduled time. The new books will show various images of the mass uprising. Besides, other problems of primary education including stipends will also be resolved in phases.
He said the government has decided to appoint 93 per cent of primary teachers based on merits.
“There will be no dependent quota in the primary teacher’s recruitment,” the adviser commented.
Bidhan Ranjan Roy said `Mid-Day Meals’ will be introduced in all primary schools across the country within the next five years.
In South Asia, Bangladesh gives the lowest allocation in the education sector as it expenses only 2 per cent of the total budget. According to UNESCO, the allocation for education should be 6 per cent of the national budget, he continued.
