The chill of winter has intensified across the northern districts, with temperatures dropping to 10.4°C in Panchagarh, the country’s northernmost region, reports Dhaka Tribune.
The Tetulia Meteorological Observatory in Panchagarh recorded the temperature at 6am on Saturday, following a slight dip from Friday’s 11.3°C.
Locals said that the cold has set in earlier than the traditional Bengali winter month of Paush. While temperatures rise after 10am, the evenings bring back a biting chill accompanied by cold northern winds, forcing residents to retrieve their winter clothing.
The clear skies over the past two days have provided a rare and breath-taking view of Kanchenjunga, the world’s third-highest mountain. Hundreds of tourists have flocked to the region to enjoy the majestic sight and embrace the winter atmosphere.
