The six-member ‘Search Committee’ formed to constitute a new Election Commission (EC) will pay a courtesy call on President Mohammed Shahabuddin at Bangabhaban at 6:15 pm on Wednesday (November 19).

The search committee was formed in accordance with the Clause-3 of “The Chief Election Commissioner and Other Election Commissioners Appointment Act, 2022,” to recommend the names of qualified individuals for the positions of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and other Election Commissioners (ECs).
Justice of Supreme Court Appellate Division Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury will chair the search committee.
The other members of the search committee are -- Senior Justice of High Court Division AKM Asaduzzaman, Comptroller and Auditor General (OCAG) of Bangladesh, Chairman of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC), former Professor of International Relations Department of Dhaka University Prof Dr. Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar and former Chairman of BPSC Professor Dr. ZN Tahmida Begum.
Earlier, a gazette notification signed by Cabinet Secretary Dr. Sheikh Abdur Rashid to constitute the search committee was published on October 31, 2024.
According to the notification, the search committee will carry out its duties in accordance with ‘The Chief Election Commissioner and Other Election Commissioners Appointment Act, 2022”.
However, the cabinet division will provide all necessary secretarial support to the search committee in carrying out its responsibilities.
