Winter has fully arrived in Chuadanga, with a crisp, chilly breeze. The entire region is blanketed in dense fog, and the temperature has dropped to 14 degrees Celsius.
At 6 a.m. on Monday, the temperature in Chuadanga was recorded at 14.5°C, with humidity levels reaching 97%. This marks the lowest temperature of the season in the district.
The lowest temperature in the district on Sunday was 15.8°C, indicating a 1.3°C drop from the day before. The local meteorological office predicts that the temperature will continue to fall gradually in the days ahead.
With the arrival of cold weather, people have started dressing in thick, warm clothing when going outside in the evenings. At night, blankets and quilts are being used for warmth, while the cold morning breeze makes the chill feel even sharper.
Chuadanga Sadar Hospital has seen an increase in the number of children suffering from diarrhoea and pneumonia due to cold-induced rotavirus infections for cold weather.
Over the past week, more than three thousand elderly individuals have sought treatment for cold-related ailments, such as respiratory issues and diarrhoea, at the outdoor clinic of Chuadanga Sadar Hospital, according to Wahid Mahmud Robin, Acting Residential Medical Officer (RMO), who confirmed this to the media.
He said that the cold weather has led to a rise in cases of rotavirus-induced diarrhoea among children. Pneumonia cases have also seen a notable rise.
Furthermore, due to the cold, around 400-500 children and elderly patients are visiting the hospital's outdoor clinic for treatment each day.
