BNP Standing Committee Member Dr AZM Zahid Hossain has said the nation is united under the leadership of Tarique Rahman, the party's acting chairman, reports Dhaka Tribune.
Speaking at a rally to mark the November 7 National Revolution and Solidarity Day on Friday, the BNP leader said: "Today's mass unity, today's rally, is a rally of ordinary people, of all classes and professions. Just as the nation united on November 7, 1975, in a rally to bring Ziaur Rahman to power, today too the nation stands united under the leadership of Tarique Rahman."
The BNP did not hold the rally on Thursday as it was a weekday.
Starting from noon, leaders and activists gathered at Naya Paltan. BNP supporters from various parts of the city joined the rally in processions.
At 3pm, the rally activities were formally launched with a recitation from the Quran and a prayer for Khaleda Zia.
By 2:45pm, an assembly was ongoing on a temporary stage at Naya Paltan, before the rally began.
Organizers said that after about half an hour of speeches, the rally would proceed toward Manik Mia Avenue, with senior BNP leaders participating.
