Foreign Secretary Md. Jasim Uddin has urged the UK government to increase the number of scholarships available to Bangladeshi students and to speed up the visa processing for those awaiting admission to universities across the country.
British High Commissioner Sarah Cook held a meeting with Foreign Secretary Md. Jasim Uddin on Wednesday, November 6, during which the Foreign Secretary made the request to increase scholarships for Bangladeshi students and expedite visa processing.
In response to the Foreign Secretary's request, the British High Commissioner assured that the matter would be given due consideration. The High Commissioner also reaffirmed the UK's commitment to supporting Bangladesh's democratic progress and strengthening the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
The meeting covered a range of topics related to the partnership between Bangladesh and the UK, including mutual interests in trade and commerce, the recovery of smuggled assets, maritime security, climate change, migration and labor mobility, as well as the ongoing Rohingya crisis.
The Foreign Secretary expressed appreciation for the British government's support of the interim government's reform efforts, aimed at ensuring a smooth democratic transition and fostering a non-discriminatory, prosperous Bangladesh.
He also highlighted the positive role of the Bangladeshi diaspora in the UK and underscored the strong bilateral ties between the two nations, which are rooted in their shared Commonwealth heritage and values.
The British High Commissioner reaffirmed the UK's commitment to supporting Bangladesh's democratic transformation and further strengthening bilateral relations. She emphasized the strong bond between the peoples of Bangladesh and the UK, as well as the deep political and economic ties between the two countries.
He commended Bangladesh's leadership in tackling both regional and global challenges and assured that the UK would continue to support the country's development priorities moving forward.
