The Electoral Reform Commission has received more than 500 recommendations so far. In these recommendations, citizens have given their opinions on more than six issues. The deadline for giving recommendations or opinions will expire on November 15. However, the commission is mulling to extend the period.
Sources said the Electoral Reform Commission has already held 14 meetings. It has received 109 opinions through e-mail, 185 recommendations through the website, 182 opinions through the Facebook page and 46 recommendations via messenger.
Countrymen have given more opinions on the electoral system, Constitution and legal framework of the election, eligibility of candidates, freedom, power and overall activities of the election commission, transparency of voting, and role of the government, administration and law enforcement agencies in the elections. People have sent these opinions from October 22 to November 4.
Badiul Alam Majumder, head of the Electoral Reform Commission, said, “We are getting huge response on the reform of the electoral system. Maybe, we can extend the opinions time. As many people will give opinions, it will be better. We are seeking written recommendations from all citizens including political parties. So far we have received over 500 recommendations. Hope, we will get more.”
“We have divided all the recommendations into six parts. More issues may be added in the future. It will depend on what kinds of recommendations come in,” he continued.
On October 22, the Electoral Reform Commission asked people to send their recommendations and opinions on the reform of the electoral system through online platforms. The commission is interested to know the valuable suggestions, opinions and proposals of all for conducting free, participatory and impartial national and local elections.
