Information and Broadcasting Adviser Nahid Islam has said that the interim government will assist in establishing a foundation named after Shaheed Abu Sayed, enabling it to carry out direct charitable activities across the country.
Nahid made the assurance in response to a call made by the family members of Shaheed Abu Sayed during a meeting held with him at his secretariat office in Dhaka on Tuesday.
“We will ensure all sorts of support to establish a foundation named after Shaheed Abu Sayed,” he said consoling the bereaved family members.
Abu Sayed was shot dead by police while he was participating in the quota reform movement on 16 July 2024.
Sayed, a student of Begum Rokeya University, was involved in the protest in front of the university when the police engaged in charging batons and opened fire on the students to disperse them.
Nahid inquired about the overall condition of the victim’s family members and assured them of standing beside them on behalf of the government.
The victim’s elder brother Ramjan Ali, Abu Hossain and other family members were present during the meeting.
The event was presided over by Jahirul Islam Kalim, Senior Vice-President of the Freedom Fighters' Generation Council, with BNP Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, BNP Joint Secretary-General Abdus Salam Azad, and others speaking as the chief discussants.
