The World Bank (WB) and the environment ministry have agreed to explore project areas and strategic interventions for bolstering Bangladeshi initiatives on climate adaptation, sustainable development, and biodiversity conservation.
The decision was taken at a meeting between environment and climate change adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan and a World Bank delegation, led by its Practice Manager Christian Albert Peter, held at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
Both sides expressed optimism about the positive impacts of the aforementioned initiatives, reaffirming their dedication to environmental stewardship and sustainable growth in Bangladesh.
At the meeting, Rizwana said that Bangladesh’s partnership with the World Bank (WB) is essential for advancing the country’s environmental priorities.
“Together, we aim to strengthen the nation’s defenses against climate threats, protect biodiversity, and foster a sustainable environment for our people,” she stated.
The discussions focused on bolstering Bangladesh’s climate resilience, enhancing environmental safeguards, and exploring opportunities for sustainable development.
Christian Albert Peter expressed the multilateral lender’s commitment to supporting Bangladeshi initiatives that promote green growth, environmental protection, and community resilience amid climate change challenges.
“Our shared vision with Bangladesh is to integrate environmental considerations with all development projects, ensuring long-term ecological health and socioeconomic well-being,” he said.
The secretary, additional secretary, and joint secretary of the Ministry of Environment, along with World Bank officials like Senior Environmental Specialist Ana Lusia Gomes Lima and Eun Joo Allison Yi as well as Environmental Economist Jihae Kwon, were also present at the event.
