There are 12 teachers at Mundumala Girls School and College in Tanore, Rajshahi. This year, only one student from the college participated in the HSC examination but failed, despite the educational care she was supposed to get as the sole pupil of a dozen of teachers.
The acting principal of the college, Sadiqul Islam, confirmed the matter to the reporters following the publication of HSC results on October 15.
According to sources, the college got permission to start its secondary level activities in 2002. However, the teachers of the institution have been working without salary for the last 22 years.
Aside from the 12 teachers, four employees also work at the college. Due to lack of teachers’ salaries and other required funding, good students usually do not get admission there anticipating a poor educational environment. Consequently, the institution performs poorly in the public exams every year, said sources.
Regarding the matter, Tanore Upazila Secondary Education Officer Siddiqur Rahman said, “The teachers of this institution have been working without pay for almost 22 years, which is sad.”
