Syed Refaat Ahmed, the Chief Justice, has reportedly sent on leave six judges, who were appointed during the Awami League government's era. The chief justice earlier invited them for 'tea' in his office, reports tbsnews.
Earlier, The chief justice, invited 12 such judges for “tea” in his office this afternoon (16 October).
Of them, Justice SM Moniruzzaman, Justice Khandaker Diliruzzaman, Justice Md Akhtaruzzaman, Justice Shahed Md Nooruddin, Justice SM Masud Hossain Dolon and Justice Aminul Islam attended. They were informed about the leave by the chief justice, said a source.
However, an official announcement is still to be made from the chief justice's office.
The names of the other judges invited to the meeting have not been revealed.
According to the Supreme Court administration sources, there are allegations of corruption against the 12 judges. It was reported that those judges were staunch allies of Hasina-led government.
Various organizations have been demanding the resignation of pro-AL judges. Furthermore, ordinary lawyers have been demanding the resignation of these politically motivated judges as well.
After the fall of the Awami League government, pro-BNP lawyers have been demanding the resignation of at least 30 judges of the Supreme Court as well.
Meanwhile, members of the anti-discrimination student movement also echoed the same demand as two influential figures of the movement demanded the resignation of the politically motivated judges yesterday(Tuesday).
