The committee tasked with determining the maximum permissible age for joining public services has submitted its report to the government, recommending an age limit of 35 years for men and 37 years for women.
However, the committee did not set a specific age limit for retirement from public services, said a source on Saturday.
The government formed the committee on September 30 to make recommendations on fixing the reasonable age for entry into government services
The committee, headed by former caretaker government adviser Abdul Muyeed Chowdhury as convener, has been asked to submit its report within seven working days.
While talking to reporters on the matter, Mohammad Saiful Islam, secretary of the Power Division under the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources and a member of the committee, said that the issue will be resolved during the advisory council meeting.
Earlier on October 2, Muyeed, while talking to reporters, said there is justification for the demand to increase the maximum age limit for entering into government services.
The committee would review the overall situation and make recommendations to the government in this regard, he said.
He cited the COVID-19 pandemic and session jam as justifications for raising the age limit for public services.
During the Awami League government, job aspirants protested several times to increase the age of entry into government jobs, but that regime did not put its heed to the demand.
After the ouster of the fascist Awami League government on August 5, the Bangladesh Administrative Service Association Secretary General Muhammad Mahbubur Rahman wrote a letter to the cabinet secretary on behalf of the organisation to increase the age limit for government services to 35 years and the retirement age to 65 years.
The Cabinet Division sent the letter to the public administration secretary requesting actions over the issue.
After that, the job aspirants also started the movement again with the demand of increasing the age limit for entry into government jobs.
At present, people aged maximum 30 can enter into government services. Government employees retire at the age of 59.
Children of Freedom Fighters can join government services till the age of 32, and retire at the age of 60.
