Two women of a family were hacked to death and a man sustained injuries during a clash over land dispute at Shanghat village in Gangni upazila of Meherpur on Saturday morning.
The victims were identified as schoolteacher Jakia Akter alias Elma, 45, wife of Zahid Hossain, hailed from the village and her sister-in-law Josna Khatun, 50, wife of Hafizul Islam and also a mother of three children.
Locals said the incident occurred in the area as Elma's brother-in-law Mohibul Islam Ohid attacked the women--Elma and Josna-- with a machete during a family discussion over an ancestral property, leaving the duo dead.
Elma's husband Zahid Hossain was injured in the attack. He was admitted to Gangni Upazila Health Complex, BSS reported.
Hearing the news, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Pritam Saha and Gangni Police Station Officer-in-Charge Tajul Islam visited the spot.
The bodies have been taken to the police custody, said police.
