BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has stressed that economic liberation must be achieved in addition to political reforms to improve the lives of people of the country.
He made the remarks on Saturday while addressing a commemoration event virtually at Enayetpur Islamia High School in Sirajganj.
In his speech as chief guest, Tarique emphasized that BNP’s 31-point reform agenda was a starting point, but real change would only come with the attainment of both political rights and economic freedom.
“To truly change the fate of the people, reforms alone are not enough. Political rights must be secured, but we must also strive for economic liberation,” he said. Tarique added that the future of Bangladesh depends on achieving both political and economic emancipation.
He further noted that Bangladesh is a country full of potential, and its people, as a promising nation, deserve both political and economic freedom. “We can achieve political liberation, but that alone will not bring full freedom. If political liberation is to be meaningful, we must also work towards economic liberation,” Tarique asserted.
Reflecting on the recent student movement, Tarique honored those who lost their lives, describing their sacrifice as being for the millions of people who seek freedom from dictatorship. “The martyrs of the movement gave their lives so that the people of Bangladesh could regain their basic rights, which had been trampled under the misrule of dictatorship,” he said.
