Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal said if the upcoming upazila elections fail, the democracy established on January 7 (12th National Assembly Elections) will also fail.
He said this in a law and order meeting held with the field administration at the election building on the occasion of the sixth upazila parishad elections going to be held on Thursday (April 25).
CEC said, “By organizing upazila elections properly, we can establish that there is democracy in Bangladesh and elections are like elections. If the upazila elections fail, the democracy established on January 7 will fail. Therefore, violence-free elections must be held.”
Other election commissioners, EC secretary, field administration and police administration officials participated in the meeting.
