Shahjahan Khan was a fighting soldier in the movement against autocratic fascist, said Nurul Haque Nur, the president of Gono Odhikar Parishad and former VP of DUCSU.
He also said that Shahjahan Khan practiced the politics of harmony by uniting all Hindus and Muslims of Galachipa Dashmina.
“I would request those in his family to continue the trend of non-communal politics by maintaining relations with all the people of Galachipa-Dashmina. But recently, some vested groups in Bangladesh are trying to destroy communal harmony. We will all be united and will not let that happen,” said Nur.
Nurul Haque Nur said this while speaking as the guest of honor at a memorial service held at the municipal forum on Thursday at 4 pm on the occasion of the second death anniversary of the former MP of Patuakhali-3 constituency and former general secretary of the district BNP, late Alhaj Shahjahan Khan.
Former upazila BNP president Alhaj Golam Mostafa presided over the event, while Anwara Shahjahan, wife of the late MP Shahjahan Khan, former upazila BNP general secretary Md. Sohrab Mia, acting general secretary of the district Jubo Dal and son of the late Shahjahan Khan Md. Shiplu Khan, vice-president of the municipal BNP Md. Moniruzzaman Nesar, joint conveners of the upazila Jubo Dal Ashish Kumar Saha and Shahabuddin Sikder, former president of the municipal BNP Rafiq Khan, joint general secretary of the upazila BNP Abdus Sobahan Mia, among others, also spoke on the occasion.
Shahjahan Khan died on November 28 while undergoing treatment after being injured in an attack by Awami League terrorist on his way to the BNP's Barisal divisional convention in 2022.
