The Supreme Court Bar Association has demanded a ban on the International Krishna Consciousness Association (ISKCON).
In a written statement at a press conference at the Supreme Court Bar auditorium on Thursday, acting secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association, Mahfuzur Rahman Milon, said, "We strongly condemn and protest the killing of Chattogram lawyer Saiful Islam Alif on November 26 in an attack by members of the extremist organization ISKCON on the premises of the Chattogram court. The deceased Saiful Islam Alif was a lawyer of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh and a regular member of the Supreme Court Bar Association. When a lawyer dies unexpectedly, our hearts bleed. This incident of killing Alif has bled the hearts of 180 million people, including the lawyers, across Bangladesh.
Lawyers play a leading role in ensuring justice for the oppressed and oppressed people of the society. Today, those lawyers are not safe in their workplaces. An environment must be ensured so that lawyers can conduct their profession without any hindrance and safety. It is the need of the hour to enact a lawyer protection law, said the statement.
The Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association strongly demands the government to take legal action against those involved in such brutal murders with utmost seriousness and also to ban ISKCON. We express our deep condolences to the bereaved family members of the deceased, said Mahfuzur Rahman Milon.
