The Cabinet Division on Monday rejected the proposal of the cabinet committee on law and order for extending the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays by one day, reports UNB.
The rejection came from the cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her office, said Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Huq.
“The cabinet rejected the proposal of the cabinet committee on law and order for extending Eid holidays as already the government officials will enjoy long holidays and if April 9 is declared holiday, it will be longer that may hinder flow of work,” he said.
Earlier, the cabinet committee on law and order recommended extension of the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays by one day from April 9 to ensure hassle-free journey of holidaymakers.
Depending on the sighting of the Shawwal moon, the Eid-ul-Fitr is scheduled to be celebrated on April 10 or April 11 and the Eid holiday will be on April 10, 11 and 12.
