Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) Amina J. Mohammed on Sunday paid a courtesy call on the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury at the latter's JS office in the capital and lauds Bangladesh’s acitivity in achieving SDG, reports BSS.
During the meeting, they discussed, in detail, the impact of climate change, sustainable development, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) targets, gender equality, child labour, child marriage and violence against women, a press release said.
The speaker said that the government is working tirelessly to ensure sustainable development by 2030 despite the delay caused by COVID-19 pandemic.
She said that members of the parliament are working sincerely to ensure gender equality, eliminate child marriage, prevent violence against women in their respective constituencies and the JS is also providing all necessary support to this end.
The speaker said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has formulated Delta Plan-2100 to deal with climate change.
She said that the JS will also participate in the program taken to deal with climate change in this delta.
The UN Deputy Secretary-General praised Bangladesh's work in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
She said that parliamentarians can play an important role in achieving the sustainable development of the country.
Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury lauded the leadership of Deputy Secretary-General of UN in implementing SDGs.
