The Election Commission (EC) has given a clarification that Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal's comments on Islami Andolan Bangladesh's mayoral candidate were presented distortedly and incorrectly in media on the day of Barishal City Corporation (BCC) elections.
In the clarification, it said in response to a volley of questions from journalists about the attack on Islami Andolan Bangladesh's mayoral candidate Mufti Syed Muhammad Faizul Karim, the CEC wanted to know from the journalists with concern about the physical condition of Faizul Karim, reports BSS.
Different media published and broadcast news incorrectly and distortedly that the CEC insulted the Islami Andolan candidate and wished his death, it added.
Even the EC came to know that leaders of different political parties made comments insulting the EC at discussions and rallies.
The CEC said he didn't make any comments that can insult and tarnish the image of the Islami Andolan candidate.
He also said even after that if anyone felt hurt at his comments, he is really sorry for that.
