The United Nations (UN) Under-Secretary General for Peacekeeping Jean-Pierre Lacroix on Sunday paid a courtesy call on the Acting Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Ataul Hakim Sarwar Hasan at Army Headquarters in the capital, reports BSS.
During the meeting, they exchanged views related to skills and other various issues to the UN peacekeeping mission, said a press release.
They also discussed the current position of the Mali mission and its future activities. The Acting Army Chief requested the UN Under Secretary General to recruit more Bangladeshi peacekeepers for UN peacekeeping missions.
Lacroix highly praised the contribution of Bangladeshi peacekeepers engaged to the UN peacekeeping mission and assured that he would give special consideration to the recruitment of more peacekeepers from Bangladesh and especially the Bangladesh Army for sending the highest peacekeeper to the United Nations Mission.
They also discussed about the appointment of Bangladeshis and especially women peacekeepers for important appointments in peacekeeping missions in the future.
Lacroix is on a visit here marking the Peacekeeping Ministerial-2023 Preparatory Conference to be held in Ghana's capital Accra in December this year.
The conference titled 'Women in Peace' will be organized by Bangladesh, Canada and Uruguay.
