Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Md Mustafizur Rahman dispelled fear of any international community on holding free and fair general election next year.
He was addressing journalists in Foreign Correspondents Club in New Delhi on Friday evening, reports Daily Sun.
Replying to a query about the US visa policy linking with the internal general elation of Bangladesh, High Commissioner said “Our government has taken note of the US announcement. But our Prime Minister has made it clear Bangladesh is committed to hold election in free and fair manner.”
“The entire people of Bangladesh will decide to uphold hard earned democratic political stability. For that, definitely we need support from international community including USA to sustain developmental process and stability of the country."
Asked about the help from India in the upcoming general election, High Commissioner was candid to explain that "Any self-respecting country including Bangladesh gives highest importance to its sovereignty and freedom to take its decision about domestic policy or international issues for the betterment of the people. Definitely, we need support from international community including India to be part with the journey of development."
On the question of the demand of the BNP on holding election under a neutral government, High Commissioner said “It is their longstanding demand. That is true. But Bangladesh Supreme Court has already given verdict against holding election under a neutral government. The present Government has to comply with the judgment of the apex court."
The HC presented a long list of success stories on Bangladesh-India bilateral relations.
On the question of Bangladesh 's joining BRICS, he said it will be immensely helpful for the Bangladesh to seek more assistance, loan for the future developmental projects.
