Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU), a specialized unit of Bangladesh Police, arrested five members of an online fraud gang from the Vatara and Mohammadpur areas in the capital on Monday, reports UNB.
The arrestees are Md Turjaul Hossain Turjo, 22, son of Tauhid Molla, Julhas Hossain alias Shayon, 30, son of Abdul Molla, Md Monir Hossain, 24, son of Md Bokhtiar Gazi; Md Rasib Biswas, 21, son of Kayes Biswas, Md Mahfuj Biswas alias Mahfuj, 27, son of Abu Zar Biswas and Abdul Al Mukit Kawsar, 21.
Based on secret information, a team of ATU conducted drives in the city's Vatara and Mohammadpur areas around 8:30 am and arrested them, said Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Aslam Khan of the ATU headquarters (Media & Awareness).
During the drives, the law enforcers also recovered two laptops, 18 mobile phone sets, and two hard disks from their possessions, he added.
He said the online fraud gang has been deceiving people in the name of selling different types of goods opening accounts on Facebook
Legal action will be taken against the arrestees, he added.
