Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun on Tuesday asked the River Police to perform duties with more professionalism in ensuring security of waterways and conservation of fisheries, reports BSS.
“The River Police has already earned trust of the passengers; waterways transport owners and common people in a short time,” he said this while exchanging views with its officers at the River Police at its Headquarters in the capital.
The police chief said the River Police has to work better to fulfill the expectations of the Prime Minister, for which she formed it, said adding, “Through good works, we have to break our records of good works.”
The meeting was held with its chief Additional IGP Md Shafiqul Islam in the chair. Besides, officers in-charge of different police stations/outposts of the River Police joined the meeting virtually.
“With united efforts, we have successfully brought militancy and terrorism under control as the Prime Minister declared 'zero tolerance' policy against militancy and terrorism,” IGP Mamun said.
He said people's expectation to the police has been increased, so police has to gain their trust by providing services as per their expectations.
“Every policeman should strive to ensure that people are not subjected to any form of harassment for availing services. Overall, police are doing a good job. In the past about 90% of clueless cases were not solved, but now about 95% of clueless cases are being solved,” Mamun added.
The IGP warned police personnel that none will be spared from any corruption and drug addiction.
“Bangladesh Police will not take the responsibility for any policeman's criminal acts,” he stated.
Later the IGP visited the 'Bangabandhu Corner' set up at the River Police Headquarters.
