Bashundhara Group, the country’s largest business conglomerate, in association with Rongdhanu Group presented 15,000 insolvent families at Rupganj in Narayanganj with new clothes on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Marking the holy month of Ramadan, the two corporate houses have undertaken month-long food distribution programme covering a wide range of 25,000 families.
Chairman of Rongdhanu Group and Awami League leader Rafiqul Islam along with others distributed shari, lungi, three pieces among the poor families on the premises of the company’s temporary office at Kayetpara Union on Thursday.
Besides, food ingredients--aromatic rice, lentil, oil, sugar, vermicelli, potato and onion--will be distributed among 20,000 poor families in the upazila on Friday.
Addressing the charity, Rafiqul Islam said “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina advised the affluent people to stand by the poor instead of wasting money through iftar mahfil. Accordingly, Bashundhara Group and Rongdhanu Group undertook month-long programme in aid of the helpless and hapless during the Ramadan.”
However, the charitable programme will continue in the area throughout the year, he added.
Rongdhanu Group Director and former Zila Parishad member Mizanur Rahman, Narayanganj district Awami League senior vice-president Khandker Abul Bashar Tuku, Kayetpara union Awami League general secretary Abdul Awal, former chairman of Bhulta union parishad Abu Daud Mollah, union Awami League senior vice-president and freedom fighter Shamsul Alam, among other, were present.
