Govt to invite Messi to visit Bangladesh: FM

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Thursday said World Cup winner Argentine football superstar Leonel Messi and his team will be invited to visit Bangladesh as there is lakh of fans of Messi and Argentina.

He revealed the information while briefing journalists after attending a meeting in the capital’s Banani.

Momen said Argentine Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship Santiago Andrés Cafiero is likely to visit Bangladesh in March next year.

“I have told the envoy to come with Messi and his team. We will host them,” he added.

Momen said the decision of opening Argentina’s embassy in Dhaka will be made during the FM’s visit. 

Earlier, Argentine President Alberto Fernández on Thursday said his country is working to reopen a diplomatic mission in Dhaka next year.
