Relentless passionate drive by ASI Md Abdul Kadir in search of lost mobile phones resulted in recovery of almost 4,500 sets in last eight years, which also made him a hero to the people who got back their lost phones.
If there’s a general diary (GD) is filed for mobile lost or snatching incidents, police administration calls on Kadir to investigate the matter and he run drive to recover the lost sets.
ASI Kadir is now working at Banani Thana under Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). Each day he receives many complaints regarding mobile phone lost or snatching. Even, victims under other Thana came to him demanding his assistance.
For his excellent contribution in recovering mobile phones he has been awarded 22 times from the Police Department. In 2019, he achieved ‘IGP’s Exemplary Good Services Badge,’ which was second highest honorable prize in police department.
Abdul Kadir said he was on duty at Tejgaon Industrial Area Thana one night in 2015, when a woman came to him with very gloomy face and told him that she had lost her cellphone while returning from Mahakhali area on CNG. The woman was almost weeping which made the ASI curious. He asked why she was so passionate about the lost gadget. She said it was the last thing belongs to her late father as he had bought her the phone some days before his death. Besides, the gadget also contained some photographs that she took with her father.
ASI Kadir, influenced deeply by the passionate matter, decided to recover the phone by any means. He contacted with Detective Branch (DB) and sent the copy of GD and other documents to them. Using modern technology, DB had recovered the mobile phone from Barishal three months later.
The ASI said everybody has personal and emotional attachments with his/her mobile phone set. When they come to police with the hope to recover it, then their facial expression says that they’ve lost a big asset, whatever the price of the gadget. Hence, I decided to work to recover the lost phones with all my dedication.
He advised to the cellphone users that everyone who lost their mobile set have to file a GD, not only to recover it, but also for their own security. In addition, he said after purchasing, the users need to keep box and cash memo in safe place, as when the mobile gets lost, then it can be found using the IMEI number. Through tracking IMEI number using modern technology, it’s possible to recover 60-70% of lost mobile phone sets.
To make the users aware, the magic-man in recovering mobile phone sets ASI Kadir said many people keep the photos or videos of their personal moments in the phone, which turned to cause of concern after losing the phone. So, they shouldn’t preserve personal contents in the mobile set.
Recently, ASI Kadir recovered the lost phone of a Sri Lankan citizen. The Lankan man said that it was amazing to have such a good service from a Bangladesh police.
When any foreigner post a status on facebook after getting back his/her cellphone, then as a member of Bangladesh Police he feels sheer proud.
ASI Kadir, who joined in police in 2005, was hailed from Boro Berakharua under Belkuchi thana of Sirajganj. He involved in cell phone recovery-drive for humane cause and wants to remain in the heart of people by doing good deeds.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of DMP Thana Mohammad Nur-e Azam Miah said ASI Kadir doing his duty with dedication and honesty. We encourage him in his drive to recover mobile phones as it’s really very important gadget to the users. The users get ecstatic whenever the get back their favorite gadget and we’re also striving to make the people smile.
