The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in an operation on Monday noon arrested a drug dealer with 3.580 kilograms (KGs) of opium worth about Tk 3.5 crore from Keranihat area of Bandarban road under Satkania upazila.
The arrested person has been identified as Suman Tanchangya, 28, son of Prabhat Tanchangya, hailed from Bakichra area of Bandarban Sadar, reports BSS.
On information, a team of RAB-7 detained Sumon Tanchangya from the said area on Sunday evening, Nurul Abshar, Senior Assistant Director (Media) told reporters.
The RAB team recovered 3,580 grams of opium wrapped in black polythene inside the plastic bag from his possession. The estimated value of the recovered drugs is worth about Tk 3.58 crore.
He also said that Suman Tanchangya is an active member of a terrorist gang of Chattogram Hill Tracts (CHT) area.
In order to collect money, they have been collecting drugs (opium) from the remote hilly areas for a long time and selling it to the drug dealers and drug addicts in different parts of the country, he added.
Suman has been handed over to the concerned police station for taking legal action.
