Four people were killed and one was injured as a truck ran over a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Hijalia of Ukhiya upazila in Cox’s Bazar on Saturday, police said.
Three of the deceased were identified as Salima Khatun, 40, wife of late Joynal Islam, Anwarul Islam, 25, son of late Gora Mia of Holdia Palong union under Ukhiya, and Bitu Dhor, 51, son of Monindra Dhar of Ramu upazila.
Quoting locals, police said, a Teknaf-bound truck ran over a Ukhiya-bound CNG-run auto-rickshaw around 10 am, leaving one passenger of the auto-rickshaw dead on the spot and wounded four others.
Critically injured were rushed to the hospital while three of the wounded succumbed to their injuries on the way.
Ukhiya Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sheikh Mohammad Ali said the police force has been sent to the spot.
Police seized both vehicles, he added.
