A former U.S. Army soldier from Pennsylvania has been indicted by a federal grand jury for attempting to provide support to Hezbollah, a Lebanese militant group designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S., and for making false statements to the FBI, the Department of Justice announced Thursday.
Jack Danaher Molloy, 24, a dual U.S.-Irish citizen, reportedly traveled to Lebanon and Syria in 2024 in an effort to join Hezbollah, according to the Justice Department. After returning to the United States later that year, Molloy allegedly continued attempting to affiliate with the group.
The Justice Department further stated that Molloy had promoted hatred and violence against Jewish communities and that he had served briefly in the U.S. Army as an active-duty soldier from March to April 2019.
Upon his return to the U.S., Molloy allegedly lied to FBI agents about his intentions to join Hezbollah. Authorities arrested him on December 6 in Chicago, where he now faces charges related to his attempts to support the group and his false statements.
