The Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, has killed at least five Israeli troopers in an ambush on a base of the Israeli forces in Jabalia in the northern Gaza Strip, Press TV reported.
The soldier has been identified as Sgt. Uriel Peretz, 23, a member of the Kfir Brigade’s Netzah Yehuda Battalion, from Beitar Illit.
According to local media reports from the besieged territory, the incident took place at close range.
In a statement, the Qassam Brigades detailed its operations in the northern Gaza Strip, saying the five Israeli soldiers were eliminated in different operations.
The statement further outlined that the Qassam fighters managed to set ablaze a Merkava tank with its occupants.
It added that the resistance fighters also targeted a military vehicle carrying several Israeli troopers using hand grenades, inflicting fatalities and injuries on all those inside the vehicle.
The Times of Israel reported the Israeli military as confirming a soldier was killed during fighting in the northern Gaza Strip earlier on Monday.
Additionally, the report mentioned that three other soldiers belonging to the same battalion suffered severe injuries in the same incident in the Beit Hanoun area.
