Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed "deep gratitude" on Tuesday for US President-elect Donald Trump's "strong resolve" to end Russia's war in Ukraine, following their meeting in Paris last Saturday. The talks were hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysee Palace.
Zelensky emphasized that the priority during the meeting was to find a path to end the war, a goal he shared with both Macron and Trump. "I am deeply grateful to President Macron for organizing the talks, and to President Trump for his commitment to bringing the war to a fair conclusion," he wrote on social media.
Trump has previously claimed he could end the conflict within 24 hours once in office, raising concerns in Ukraine about possible territorial concessions. On Sunday, he called for an "immediate ceasefire," suggesting Zelensky was ready to "make a deal and stop the madness."
Zelensky also addressed concerns about expanding Ukraine's draft age to include 18-year-olds, rejecting the idea. He stressed the importance of equipping and training existing forces rather than increasing the pool of soldiers.
