President-elect Donald Trump's border security director Tom Homan urged illegal immigrants to voluntarily return to their home countries before the upcoming crackdown in the United States.
After knowing about Trump's appointment on Monday, Tom Homan, former acting director of ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement), told the media, "If local authorities refuse to cooperate in the arrest and deportation process, the National Guard or military will be called in. Those incarcerated for various offenses will be handcuffed and deported to their home countries."
The deportation program for illegal immigrants will begin on January 21. Tom Homan also emphasized that the initiative is in line with the mandate given by voters in the most recent election.
It's important to note that Senate approval is not required for the President's nomination of a director for ICE. Tom Homan also stated that, starting January 20th, illegal immigrants involved in criminal activities will no longer have the opportunity to remain in the U.S. He urged individuals to voluntarily return to their home countries, as the administration is aware of their locations. For the sake of public safety and national security, expelling these individuals has become essential.
Immigration attorney Moin Chowdhury explained to Bangladesh Pratidin that individuals with pending political asylum applications are not affected by the Trump administration's strict immigration policies. The only individuals at risk are those whose applications for status adjustment have been denied, those who have received a removal order following a denied asylum application, or those who have not yet applied for legal immigration status after crossing the border illegally.
Before the Trump administration implements a strict approach, those affected should consult an experienced attorney for guidance. It is important to note that among the millions of immigrants who have lived illegally in the United States for the past 20-22 years, thousands are from Bangladesh. These individuals are particularly concerned given Trump's threat of mass expulsion.
Donald Trump is set to appoint Florida Senator Marco Rubio as the next Secretary of State, marking the first time a Latino politician will hold this prestigious position.
