UN chief tells Security Council ‘widespread famine looms’ in Gaza

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has warned that “widespread famine looms” in Gaza in a report sent to members of the UNSC, Al Jazeera Arabic’s Rami Ayari has reported from the UN, reports Al Jazeera.

The report comes after the UNSC adopted a resolution calling for increased aid delivery to Gaza on December 22.

In the report, seen by Al Jazeera’s Ayari, Guterres also warns of “a public health catastrophe” as “infectious diseases are spreading fast in overcrowded shelters” with “appalling” sanitary conditions and “sewage flooding”.
