Billionaire and former chairperson of Tata, Cyrus Mistry, passed away on Sunday in a road accident while travelling to Mumbai, reports BBC.
One other passenger died and two more were injured, reports police in India’s western Maharastra state.
Cyrus Mistry replaced Ratan Tata as executive chairman after he stepped down on turning 75 in 2012. He had joined the Tata group in 2006 as a director, and had held non-executive positions on boards of several other Tata companies earlier.
Mr Mistry and his companions were travelling in a Mercedes car through the Palghar district of Maharashtra when the accident happened on Sunday afternoon, police said.
The vehicle is said to hit a divider in the road, while crossing a bridge over a river, and Mr Mistry subsequently died at the crash scene.
At least two others were taken to hospital.
