Martin Reiser, the vice president of South Asia region of the World Bank hopes that WB would provide Bangladesh assistance of $2 billion within this year.
He said this on Thursday while talking to the journalists after holding meeting with finance adviser Salehuddin Ahmed.
Martin Reiser said, “I am happy to come back to Bangladesh. This is an important time for Bangladesh. I’ve talked to the advisor about various issues including the banking sector. We are a long time partner of Bangladesh. We want to continue this cooperation.
On the question of how much assistance the World Bank is giving to the interim government, he said, "The board director will take the final decision." So I can't make any promises. But I can say that we want to help Bangladesh in different areas. I think more than two billion dollars will be given in the current financial year.”
"Some of this money is for budget support, some for projects, health and energy sectors," said Martin Reiser. “There are some projects in Bangladesh which will have assistance as well as some assistance will be given as emergency assistance.”
